Conflict/Data Search
L.A.W.S./Pro provides the ability to thoroughly
search your firms data to find all references to entered criteria. This
capability may be used to check for potential conflicts prior to the acquisition of a new client.
The process begins with the entry of the desired
search criteria - for example, a persons name - "Bill Sampson". Spaces may be included within the search.
Potential matches must match the entire criteria. Therefore the entered criteria should be reasonably broad
enough to flag potential matches. For example, the criteria "Bill Sampson" would not flag "William Sampson".
The broader criteria of "Sampson" would flag both entries. L.A.W.S./Pro
then searches all client names, matter descriptions, client or matter contacts, user defined scratch pad
information, and if desired work in process descriptions for a match of the entered criteria.
All matching records are displayed for user review. Each record displays the field in which the match
was found, the specified client and/or matter associated with the match, and a direct link to additional
detailed information.
If the match pertains to a client name or client contact, a link allows direct display of the specific client record.
If the match is found
within the matter description or specific matter contact, the detailed matter record may be displayed. If found within
a user defined scratch pad, a link may be utilized to directly display the specific scratch pad reference. Selected WIP transactions
display the wip description and service date. The link automatically displays all wip transactions
a month before through a month after the referenced transaction allowing the user to review the transaction
in context with other activity.
Access the Search utility through the "Time and Billing" menu bar then
"Search".
You will be prompted to enter search criteria (Search For), as well as the areas within the database to search.
The system automatically searches all clients, matters, and user defined scratch pads unless otherwise noted.
The user must specify if the search should apply to the firms work in process transactions.
