Advantages Over Standalone Laptops
Some attorneys try to replicate anytime-anywhere access by maintaining their records on a
portable laptop computer. Laptops work well but offer inherent risks not associated with
L.A.W.S./Pro web-based processing.
First and foremost, laptops are not normally backed up, opening a wide
window of risk if anything ever happened to the unit. Laptops may be stolen, dropped, or
otherwise damaged possibly shutting down your practice.
A second detriment may be that laptop
units offer single user access to data disallowing secretarial use when the unit is outside the office.
